Advertising aesthetics treatments in the UK: what you can and cannot say

Prescription-only medicines cannot be advertised to the public. Here is how aesthetics practitioners can still run effective, compliant campaigns.

· 6 min read

This is general guidance, not legal advice. Check current ASA/CAP guidance and platform policies before running ads.

The core rule

Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine, so it cannot be named or implied in advertising to the public — including in social posts that promote your services.

What works instead

  • Promote consultations for concerns such as lines or skin quality
  • Lead with your qualifications and approach
  • Advertise non-prescription treatments where allowed
  • Use genuine, consented content without exaggerated claims

Platform rules

Meta and Google have their own healthcare and cosmetic procedure policies, including age targeting restrictions. Build campaigns to those from the start.

Where compliance helps

Compliant accounts stay live. Accounts that repeatedly break rules get restricted, which costs far more than careful wording.
