Marketing a music release: a six-week plan for independent artists

A release campaign should leave you with more fans you can reach directly — not just a spike in streams that fades a week later.

· 7 min read

Weeks 6–4: prepare

  • Shoot content in one or two content days
  • Build a pre-save and fan capture page
  • Plan the posting calendar and ad audiences

Weeks 3–1: build anticipation

Tease with short clips, run small ads to people who engage with similar artists, and push the pre-save to capture emails and phone numbers.

Release week

Notify your list first, post consistently and move ad budget to retarget everyone who watched teasers or visited the pre-save page.

Weeks 1–4 after

Keep the release alive with performance and behind-the-scenes content, and use your new list to announce shows or merch.

What to measure

Fans added to your own list, saves and follows, and ticket or merch sales — not just total streams.
